Lola Gjonaj & Gemma Ponce
“Students in the fourth grade spent some time talking about the virtue of responsibility. They said responsibility is taking care of your things, even when not asked, being independent, being ready for class, and not procrastinating. While all these actions are reflective in someone who is responsible in the classroom, one essential quality of the virtue of responsibility was left out: being accountable for oneself. “Responsibility is essentially the opportunity to act independently and to be accountable for one’s actions” (heartandmindteaching.com). Upon further discussion, students understood that the characteristics of responsibility include being self-motivated, focused, and taking responsibility for oneself.
Two students in the fourth grade embody the characteristics of this month’s virtue. Lola Gjonaj and Gemma Ponce take care of their belongings, are self-motivated, are independent, are ready for each class throughout the day, and hold themselves accountable and to the highest of standards. It is with honor that I nominate Lola Gjonaj and Gemma Ponce as this month’s Mountaineers of the Month.” -Mrs. Motyka, Fourth-Grade Teacher
