EC drama presented The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe last weekend. The production, an allegory for Christian life, was a timely message during the Lenten season. This year’s drama productions have been led by student director, senior Caroline Beggs. When the opportunity arose for Caroline to help continue the drama program this year, she rose to the occasion.
“Directing is not something I expected to do ever, let alone as a student. I am so grateful I was able to continue the program and contribute to the community that had a huge impact on my own growth.
I joined the Everest drama program as a shy but energetic eight-year-old. I leave as an adult who is continuing to grow in her confidence and leadership abilities. This is what theater brings out in people, and why it is so important to Everest’s formation of students. It takes children and turns them into adults who speak confidently and empathetically. Being 100% confident all the time is extremely difficult, but theater teaches us to fake it till we make it. We learn how to see life from other peoples’ perspectives, which is so integral to serving others.
It has been a blessing to be able to bring out the confidence and empathy in others through my position. If not for the support and hard work of the Everest faculty, staff, my family, and my friends, these two shows would not have been possible. Telling others what to do, while sometimes fun, can be stressful and put pressure on relationships. If not for the encouragement from others, I surely would have cracked under the responsibility.
I am doing everything I can to promote the future of the program and to make the transition between directors as smooth as possible. Thank you for trusting me this year, and I wish all my thespians and the future Everest Drama Program all the best.”
Congratulations to Caroline and the entire cast and crew on another excellent production.
