“Rayne is a wonderful example of the virtue of generosity. In the classroom she lives the motto: ‘One is more blessed to give than to receive.’  Rayne is ready to give up her free time to help one of her classmates and is willing to share her belongings all the time. Every so often, Rayne will come in with a special treat for the class, and the kids will ask, ‘What is the occasion?’ Rayne will say, ‘No reason, I just wanted to.’  Rayne has a generous heart, and it shows in all her efforts.” -Miss Wildrick, Second-Grade Teacher

William Groves

“The virtue for the month of January is gratitude. When the fourth grade discussed this virtue, they said gratitude is making sacrifices, sharing with others, giving more than you need, and detaching yourself from your things. All these things are reflective of the virtue of gratitude. According to the Catechism, gratitude is the “virtue by which we detach ourselves from things out of love for God and others.” So, when thinking about the fourth grade’s responses, gratitude means a little more than just sharing, giving, and detaching from things. It’s when these actions are done out of love for God and others that makes this a true virtue.

William Groves is a student who commits each day to doing things for others out of love. William walks in each day with a positive attitude and a smile on his face. He is always cognizant of what others need and would give the shirt off his back if it meant helping someone out. All of William’s actions are done out of love for others. This is why I feel privileged to nominate William Groves as this month’s Mountaineer of the Month.” -Mrs. Motyka, Fourth-Grade Teacher

Aiden Owens

“Aidan displays generosity in the little things he does for others.  He is giving and kind, especially when he is the first one to volunteer to help others.  For example, Aidan will always volunteer to help with technology in the classroom – everything from Chromebooks to hooking up a DVD player.  He gives of his time and effort because he knows that these are the gifts God gave him.” -Mrs. Barone, Fifth-Grade Teacher

Katherine Shea

“Katie is generous with her time and talents.  She will help her classmates with work or supplies without being asked.  And she always does it with a smile on her face and with a generous heart.  For example, Katie will volunteer to give paper, pencil, or whatever is needed to be successful.  That is the gift of generosity.” -Mr. Sapienza, Fifth-Grade Teacher
