Lilianna Duncan

“We began this month by talking about responsibility. Students in the fourth grade shared their thoughts about responsibility and shared ways to show responsibility. Their ideas included completing their school work, remembering where you put your belongings, remember your school books each night to complete assignments, and taking care of your belongings. While these are all great ways to demonstrate the virtue of responsibility, students further added that responsibility means being kind and helpful to others. ‘Life is a gift, and it offers us the privilege, opportunity, and responsibility to give something back by becoming more’ (Tony Robbins). There is a student who not only practiced the act of being responsible, but was also kind and helpful to others. Lilianna Duncan always has assignments completed on time, is able to locate her materials at a moment’s notice, and helps take care of materials in the classroom. In addition, Lilianna is always kind and willing to help others. It is with honor that I nominate Lilianna Duncan as this month’s Mountaineer of the Month.” -Mrs. Motyka, Fourth-Grade Teacher

Magnolia Heasley

“Magnolia has taken the responsibility of casting and directing a scene from one of our novels (Number the Stars). She has run the entire thing during any free time that we have had throughout the last few weeks. This is in addition to keeping up with regular classwork.” -Mr. Sapienza, Fifth-Grade Teacher

Carl Szasz

“Carl takes care of our fish tank every week and makes sure that the fish are living in a healthy environment. Not only that, I have been trying to do an activity that uses plastic bottles. Most students did not bring anything in. Carl took it upon himself to bring in enough so that all students could do the activity.” -Mr. Sapienza, Fifth-Grade Teacher
