Kindergarten students welcomed their moms to school for their mother and child retreat last month. After Mass, the students were eager to go to their classrooms and grab the rosary box of Mary and miniature rosary book they made the day before for their moms. Then, together they made a craft commemorating “The Miracle of the Sun” that happened on October 13, 1917 during the last apparition of Our Lady of Fatima. Our Lady appeared six times to the three shepherd children, Lucia, and her cousins, Francisco, and Jacinta. Our Lady’s message centered on prayer, penance, and devotion to her Immaculate Heart. She emphasized praying the Rosary daily for the conversion of sinners and world peace. During the apparition 70,000 people witnessed “the day the sun danced” and miraculously dried all the land and their clothes when it had previously been pouring rain. Several secular news papers in Europe reported this miracle. After the craft, both moms and students had fun playing “What time is it Mr. Fox?” in the gym.
