Congratulations to the Mountaineers of the Month of May who demonstrated the virtue of perseverance!

Evan Kelly

“I would like to nominate Even Kelly for Mountaineer of the Month for perseverance. Evan has consistently pushed himself this year to improve his skills in junior kindergarten. Since the beginning of the year, Evan has recognized his need to improve on a given skill and did his very best to make it happen. Evan is a wonderful example to his friends of the virtue of perseverance.” -Mrs. Reichert, Junior Kindergarten Teacher

Alexandra Golling

“I would like to nominate Allie Golling for the virtue of perseverance. Allie always takes her time on her schoolwork and wants to do well. This year, Allie has become a strong reader and writer. Math is a subject that does not always come easy to her; however, she does not give up and keeps on practicing!” -Mrs. McGrath, Kindergarten Teacher

Elise Stevens

“I would like to nominate Elise Stevens for the virtue of perseverance. Elise entered kindergarten this year very nervous; however, she worked very hard and is a strong student. She has developed a huge passion for reading and writing. During writing, the children write three sentences, but Elise will push herself and write five or more.” -Mrs. McGrath, Kindergarten Teacher

Elliot Winston

“Elliot has demonstrated perseverance from the beginning of the year. If Elliot sees something that he struggles with, he will not stop working at it until he sees growth. Even if he falls, he jumps back up and tries again. I have never seen someone with greater perseverance than Elliot.” -Mrs. Spieldenner, Kindergarten Teacher

Ian Dziekoński

“I would like to nominate Ian Dziekoński for Mountaineer of the Month for perseverance. Ian has a great work ethic. He gives 100% effort in all he does. If he makes a mistake in his work, he is always willing to go back to his seat and fix it. Ian can tackle any task I give him without complaints.  I can count on Ian to never give up!” -Mrs. Mick, First-Grade Teacher

Claire Kersey

“I would like to nominate Claire Kersey for Mountaineer of the Month for perseverance. Claire has shown a lot of growth since the beginning of the year. Claire works quietly but very hard. If skills are difficult for her, she keeps trying until she understands it. This is most evident in her “mad minutes.” I am proud of Claire for her perseverance in first grade. Keep up the good work!” -Mrs. Mick, First-Grade Teacher

Mia Marnon-Heslip

“I would like to nominate Mia Marnon-Heslip for the Mountaineer of the Month. Mia puts a lot of effort into everything she does. She works hard and always does her best work. Mia takes her time and never rushes to just get her schoolwork done. She perseveres even when others are handing in their assignments ahead of her.  She is determined to stick to it and to do it neatly and correctly. Great job, Mia!” -Mrs. McGrath, Second-Grade Teacher

Asher Dinha

“Asher started school with certain goals that he wanted to reach, and when his plan got changed due to his time away because of his broken leg, he didn’t let that stop him. He kept up with his studies at home and learned to walk with crutches and even navigate a scooter. He kept working on those goals no matter how hard it was. Asher is ending the year with his goals reached and a feeling of accomplishment. Way to go, Asher!” -Miss Wildrick, Second-Grade Teacher

Ruby Taylor

“Ruby is a good example of perseverance. She came into the school year with goals, and she is leaving with achieving them. Ruby kept working on them no matter how difficult it got. I am proud of her and the goals that she reached.” -Miss Wildrick, Second-Grade Teacher

Georgia Van Wagoner & Tessa Ioco

“I nominate Tessa Ioco and Georgia Van Wagoner for the virtue of perseverance this month. They have both demonstrated continuous hard work to complete third grade even in difficult moments. These two students have sought out extra help to reach their goals. I’m proud of both Tessa and Georgia for never giving up!” -Mrs. Walker, Third-Grade Teacher

Margaret Maxim & Julius Szasz

“This month students focused on the virtue of perseverance. When asked about this virtue, students said perseverance means to not give up easily, to keep trying, to challenge oneself, and to not say “I can’t.” These are all great qualities you find in someone who embodies the virtue of perseverance. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow once said, “Perseverance is a great element of success. If you only knock long enough and loud enough at the gate, you are sure to wake up somebody.”

Two students in the fourth grade not only lived out the virtue of perseverance this month but challenged themselves to embody this virtue throughout the entire school year. Both Maggie and Julius were challenged academically, developed excellent study habits, and persevered. If they received a grade they didn’t like, both students handled it with grace, figured out what went wrong, showed greater participation within lessons, and studied even harder the next time. “Perseverance is not the long race; it is many short races one after the other” (Walter Elliot). Maggie and Julius both understand what Walter Elliot meant. They faced each challenge and knew that with each short accomplishment would come true success. I am so proud of Maggie and Julius, and it is with honor that I nominate them as this month’s Mountaineers of the Month.” -Mrs. Motyka, Fourth-Grade Teacher

Giada Tocco

“Giada has worked tirelessly not just throughout this month, but all through the year. Whether it’s working on a simple question or a complex problem, she has worked to understand, evaluate, and succeed at each and every task.” -Mr. Sapienza, Fifth-Grade Teacher

Leo Dzieksoński

“Leo has worked tirelessly not just throughout this month, but all through the year. Whether it’s working on a simple question or a complex problem, he has worked to understand, evaluate, and succeed at each and every task.” -Mr. Sapienza, Fifth-Grade Teacher
