Last Tuesday, “Pope Leo” and Swiss Guards Bryan Bowden and Lyle Dean helped all Everest students remember the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter. This feast refers to the “Chair” of St Peter because in ancient times teachers sat down while teaching. The chair refers to St. Peter’s authority to teach and govern the Church in the name of Christ. This God-given authority has been passed down through the centuries all the way from St. Peter to Pope Francis. All classes are encouraged to pray for the Pope and his intentions.

The second graders had “elected” this year’s “Pope” in a mock conclave held earlier this month. Pope Leo and the Swiss Guards visited all the classes, took a ride in the “Pope mobile”, and passed out “pope-sicles” to the high school students at lunch.
