Monday, December 6, brought both the Feast of St. Nicholas as well as the second week of Advent to Catholics and Mountaineers. Alexander Fox led the elementary students in prayer prior to the lighting of the Advent wreath by fourth grader Mia Mandziuk. Preschool students have their own Advent wreaths hung on the wall outside their classroom.

St. Nicholas was known for his abundant generosity to the poor. The generosity of St. Nicholas was often expressed in the giving of gifts. On this feast day, academy students receive a special treat “from St. Nicholas” and are invited to reflect on the importance of generosity and to pray for the end of poverty.
