This year’s Catholic Foundation of Michigan 2021 St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Education Celebration was held on Wednesday, March 3. The event included presentation of this year’s Amazing Catholic Educator Awards. Everest headmaster and high school principal, Greg Reichert, was recognized with the 2021 Amazing Catholic Principal Award.

Mr. Reichert is in his 25th year of service at Everest Collegiate High School & Academy where he taught middle school language arts prior to accepting his current role in 2010. Under his leadership, the school has completed a building transition to provide distinct learning environments for Everest’s academy and high school students. He has directed accreditation processes, Cardinal Newman and Blue Ribbon certifications, a complete overhaul of the elective course offerings, a restructuring of school hours, and the pilot of the trimester system. In addition to all these tasks, Mr. Reichert makes time to engage actively in the school community. He attends high school dances, fundraisers, and sports games and has personally chaperoned the school’s annual trip to the March for Life and the senior class trip to the Holy Land, despite the work that pile up in his absence.

Above all, Greg’s leadership within the Everest community is rooted in his habits of daily prayer and participation in the sacraments as well as the personal attention and time he provides to each student and staff member. The 2020 EC valedictorian Mary Beth Williams shared in her graduation address, “Last, but certainly not least, I’d like to give a special thanks to Mr. Reichert who, in the midst of running a school, always made time to listen to what we had to say as if he had nothing better to do.”

Maris Mellis, high school English and history teacher, described Mr. Reichert as “an incredibly service-oriented, humble, faith-filled man who leads by example.” She went on to add, “I could not ask for a better boss: Greg’s common sense, work ethic, Christ-like demeanor, and ability to collaborate with and support others while maintaining professional authority is astounding.”

Congratulations, Mr. Reichert. Thank you for embodying the school’s motto: Semper Altius – Always Higher!
