EC soccer made school history multiple times in one week with their first ever district championship and, five days later, their first regional championship. The Mountaineers had a strong season with 14-3-1 record. Head coach John Haezebrouck commented early in the season on the strong leadership of his seniors and the hope the team had for the season.
After defeating Oakland Christian for the district title last Saturday, the Mountaineers went on to shut out Roscommon on Tuesday evening. The regional championship game was a hard fought victory as the Mountaineers were down after the first half 1-0. However, they rallied in the second half with a goal scored by Anthony Felix on the rebound of a shot by Luke Walker. The Mountaineers spirit of fight and drive when they claimed the victory after a Bad Axe own goal in a scramble at goal.
Senior Matthew Stafford told the Oakland Press, “We wanted to be the ones to bring this home to Everest and we want to just continue to win for the school. It’s all about school pride.”
The Mountaineers will go on to the D4 semifinal on Wednesday at Troy Athens high school.
It has been a great fall season for the Mountaineers with the cross country team claiming a league title and heading to regionals today. The football team claimed the league title and is headed to the CHSL Championship game tomorrow. JV volleyball also claimed their league title. Everest Collegiate athletic director Ann Serra-Lowney commented “I keep hashtagging #ProudAD. I’m just so happy for all the coaches and kids because I know how hard they’ve worked, and they are seeing that hard work pay off.”
