Everest Academy’s second-grade classes visited Neiman’s Family Market last Tuesday. The students were able to see how a market in today’s time fills similar needs as the ancient civilization markets that we have studied throughout the year. Markets in ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt and Mesopotamia supplied their people with a variety of foods, a chance to trade (buy) food, and the opportunity to meet with others who lived outside the center of the city (market place). Students enjoyed decorating cupcakes, tasting a new “very” sour fruit, seeing how their hamburger is ground and packaged, and sampling different kinds of chocolate milk and mochi balls.
