The seventh-grade girls had their annual retreat last Thursday at Queen of the Family Retreat Center. The retreat theme centered on experiencing Jesus’ love and mercy. One of the highlights for the students was adoration, which was based on the video “Lump” by Rob Bell. In that video, a dad tells the story of the day his son stole a little white ball. When the son was called out for it, the son ran and hid under his bed covers for hours, until the dad comes, finds him in his shame, gives him a hug, and tells him, “There is nothing you could ever do that would make me love you less.”

During adoration, the girls were invited to reflect on the common experience of wanting to hide, to identify what the “little white ball” means for them in their life, and let Jesus uncover them and find them just as they are. For many, it meant finding God as a good Father, who tells us, “There is nothing you could ever do that would make me love you less.”

The retreat also included other activities to drive the theme home including a Gospel reflection and skits, video discussions, games, etc. The class retreats are always a powerful experience of growth for the students’ relationship with God as well as with one another.
