This month, Everest students had the opportunity to participate in the Congressional Art Competition Awards Reception hosted at St. Clair County Community College. Sponsored annually by members of the U.S. House of Representatives, the competition is a nationwide program designed to recognize and encourage artistic talent among high school students. Since its founding in 1982, more than 650,000 students across the country have participated. Students submit original artwork in categories such as painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, and computer-generated art. Each congressional district selects winning entries through panels of local artists and community judges. District winners are recognized at local award ceremonies, and the top artwork from each district is displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
Congratulations to Everest sophomore, Elea Lacey, who won 5th place in the painting category with her submission, Sunset in Scotland.
