On Thursday, January 29, a group of students went to represent Everest at the Catholic Schools Week Mass in the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Detroit. Everest has participated in this Mass with other Catholic schools for a number of years. This was the first Catholic Schools Week Mass for Archbishop Edward Weisenberger since he was appointed as Archbishop of Detroit. He spoke of his own experience growing up at a Catholic school and how it was a huge support for him while his father was away fighting in the Vietnam War. He invited the students to be grateful for their ability to attend a Catholic school.
After Mass, the students had a chance to venerate a relic of St. Carlo Acutis. Then, the group prayed together before the Blessed Sacrament for Everest and all Catholic schools. Augustine Gappy, a seventh grade student at Everest said this about his opportunity to attend the Mass, “I felt honored to be one of Everest students to attend Mass with the Archbishop and seeing kids from other Catholic schools”.
