Catholics around the world have a particular devotion to the Sacred Heart on First Fridays. Everest Mountaineers have long participated in this devotion through First Friday Masses and other traditions. The First Friday of each month was designated by Jesus himself as consecrated to honoring his Sacred Heart, to increase our love for him and to make reparation for past and present offenses against his love.
The First Friday Devotion typically includes attending Mass, receiving Holy Communion, and spending time in prayer and or adoration on the first Friday of nine consecutive months. The central aspect of the devotion is to attend Mass and receive Holy Communion on the first Friday of the month. This is done with the intention of honoring the Sacred Heart and in a state of grace. Devotees are encouraged to spend additional time in prayer, especially in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament (adoration), offering prayers of love and adoration to Jesus. Adoration is a perfect way to make reparation and console the Sacred Heart of Jesus for the indifference and rejection He receives from so many, by taking the time to be with Him and to hear Him say like He said to St. Margaret Mary, “at least you love me.”
The lower school and middle school faculty have organized the opportunity for students to participate in Eucharistic Adoration on First Fridays beginning on the first Friday in September. Sacred Heart of Jesus, we trust in you!
