Everest Collegiate High School & Academy is pleased to recognize senior Sarah Bradley as a 2025 MHSAA Scholar-Athlete Award Recipient. Sarah is one of 10 Class C & D athletes to be recognized and the first in Everest history. The MHSAA shared the following highlights and quotes from Sarah’s essay:
Sarah Bradley played four seasons of varsity volleyball, playing fourth of varsity basketball and also played varsity softball as a sophomore. Led volleyball team to Division 4 championships the last two seasons, making the all-state first team after both and earning honorable mention as a sophomore. Helped basketball team to District titles her first three seasons, earning all-state as a junior and academic all-state in that sport as well. Served as volleyball team captain three seasons and basketball her final two. Earned AP Scholar recognition and is ranked first in her graduating class with a 4.3 weighted grade-point average. Serving second year on student government, as vice president, and participating in second year of National Honor Society. Served as ECyD youth group team leader throughout high school and two years as yearbook senior editor. Will attend Calvin University and study nursing.
Essay Quote: “To truly have this pivotal quality, it is necessary to not only be a good winner but also a good loser. It is easy to congratulate the other team on playing well when the outcome is in your favor. However, it is much harder to look into the eyes of your opponent who just ended your season and tell them they played well.”
Finalists were announced last month for the 2024-25 MHSAA-Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Awards. Sarah Bradley who was named one of just 120 finalists of the 1,513 applicants.
Per the MHSAA website, “To be eligible for the award, students must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale) and previously have won a varsity letter in at least one sport in which the MHSAA sponsors a postseason tournament. Students also were asked to respond to a series of short essay questions, submit two letters of recommendation and a 500-word essay on the importance of sportsmanship in educational athletics… The applications were judged by a 65-member committee of school coaches, counselors, faculty members, administrators and board members from MHSAA member schools.”
The MHSAA/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Award highlights the value extracurricular activities play in the total education of high school students, often improving their academic achievements in the process. Winners will receive a $2,000 scholarship.
Sarah is the first Everest Collegiate student to receive this recognition. Congratulations, Sarah!
