As the school year begins, freshman had the opportunity to participate in a formation seminar. The theme of the seminar was “Who am I?”, focusing on the fresh start that freshman years provides them. The students were invited to reflect on who they want to be as individuals and recognize their God-given gifts.
Two seniors visited the class to share reflections with the students. Zachary Felix urged them to be themselves and not to compare themselves with others, sharing his struggle with it earlier in his education. Then he left them with this final thought, “Those who live in the past are depressed, those who live in the future are anxious, and those who live in today are happy.”
“We all have different gifts,” stated Erica Walker, “so don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it.” Another piece of advice she impressed on them was the restorative nature of using the words “I’m sorry” and “I forgive you.” They provide the basis for building friendships and prevent drama from developing.
