Prior to Christmas break, students who have completed the requirements to join the Knights of the Altar participated in their knighting ceremony. Eligible students had to demonstrate spiritual, intellectual, and human preparation by attending weekly Mass, passing a liturgical knowledge test, and inviting their family to pray together.

The Knights of the Altar program, powered by ECYD, is designed to help students internalize the Catholic formation they receive by enabling them to participate actively in the liturgy as altar servers and develop a personal prayer life that will help them form life-long habits. Students progress through levels from herald to squire to knight by achieving goals of service and knowledge. The Knights of the Altar sword was made in Toledo, Spain by the prestigious Art Gladius and includes the following symbols:

  • In the pommel, we see two members of the order mounted on a single horse, a symbol of their poverty.
  • The inscription reads Sigillum Militum Xpisti, which means Seal of the Soldiers of Christ.
  • On the handle, the heraldic symbols of the lion, the lily flower, and the cross are visible.
  • In the guard, the Holy Spirit and the four evangelists appear.
  • On the sheet, there are engravings of Christ Pantocrator, the Virgin, and eight of the Apostles.

Congratulations to our new heralds!
