On Friday, December 3, middle school boys were recognized who had achieved the necessary requirements to advance to the rank of herald in Everest’s Knights of the Altar program. The Knights of the Altar program, powered by ECYD, is designed to help students internalize the Catholic formation they receive by enabling them to participate actively in the liturgy as altar servers and develop a personal prayer life that will help them form life-long habits. Students progress through levels from herald to squire to knight by achieving goals of service and knowledge.
The young men who achieved the rank of herald had completed the following requirements:
- Must have permission slip signed
- Must invite the family to pray the rosary at least once
- Must have fewer than four detentions
- Must have passed the basic knowledge test with an 80% or better
- Must go to Mass every Sunday
A few weeks prior to the ceremony, the Knights of the Altar sword was blessed and put on display in the academy lobby. The Knights of the Altar sword was made in Toledo, Spain by the prestigious Art Gladius and includes symbols representative of the program.
During the ceremony, students made the promises of the program and then were knight by Fr. Luis Felipe Villalobos, LC, middle school formation coordinator.
