Mountaineer mascot, Sir Edmund, got the light poles turned on before Friday night’s home football game. It is thanks to the generosity of benefactors and the hard work of many that Everest had permanent athletic field lights installed last week. The event coincided with Founders’ Day celebrations for Everest’s 30th anniversary. Allen Park Cabrini was generous in giving up home field advantage and travelling to Clarkston so Everest could celebrate its first game under the lights as a community. Fr. Lorenzo Gomez, LC, Everest’s founding priest, prayed a blessing over the lights and all those who will play under them. The Mountaineers claimed the win 42-12 over Cabrini. Go Mountaineers! #AllforHim

“In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth— and the earth was without form or shape, with darkness over the abyss and a mighty wind sweeping over the waters. Then God said: Let there be light, and there was light. God saw that the light was good. God then separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” Evening came, and morning followed—the first day.”

“O God, you who are the author of all light. We ask that you bless these lights so that they brighten this athletic field making it possible for all of us to enjoy the events which will happen here. May they be a source of building friendships, enjoying your creation, and providing healthy entertainment for all who frequent this field.

We ask you, Father, to bless these lights but also to enlighten our souls so that our homes will be like the home that you had in Nazareth, full of light because you are the light. Enlighten our consciences so that we can make good decisions and that these external lights will become the spiritual light that will lead us to heaven.

Thank you Lord for the many blessings you bestow on us. Without you, there is only darkness and sin. Be our Light always so that we can see You, the world, and those around us with the same clarity and love as you do. We ask that you pass the light of the parents to their children, the spiritual light. And may Almighty God bless this field in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”
