All-state teams for most sports are released in the late fall, but with the football season lasting until the end of November the all-state teams are announced closer to the end of the year. After another phenomenal season for the Mountaineers, quarterback Giovanni Mastromatteo was named Detroit News All-State Second Team Athlete of the Year. Previously Giovanni was Detroit News All-North Football Team Honorable Mention.
In his junior year Giovanni had 60% completion percentage, 1280 yards passing, and 17 passing touchdowns plus three rushing touchdowns. Defensively, Giovanni had six interceptions. He is currently the Everest career leader with 15 total interceptions.
Congratulations Giovanni!
