The EC tennis team clinched their Catholic League title as well as the CHSL Division 3/4 Championship title this past weekend.

Head coach Lee Keating has coached the co-op team for years now with players from Everest Collegiate as well as Oakland Christian and Lutheran Northwest. He said, “I am so proud of how all the players stayed poised throughout the contest.  I had a Riverview parent and two coaches commenting on what an exemplary group of girls!  These things a coach loves to hear and the school also desires to produce woman of character.”

Below is coach’s summary of the match. The team continues on with two matches early this week and a the regional meet on Friday. They need 18 more points to qualify for the state meet.

SINGLES

#1  Moorea McNally  took 1st Place

#2  Sarah Schmidt  took 1st Place

#3  Madelyn Vitu took 1st Place

#4  Elyse Duhaime took 1st Place

DOUBLES

#1  Annelise James/Molly Burgess took 1st Place

#2  Lauren Marshall/Sydney Cooper  took 2nd Place

#3  Lucia De Nigris/Bella Neiman lost to Gabriel Richard Riverview

#4  Jane Nedwick/Andrea Gonzalvo took 2nd Place

#2 Doubles:  Lauren Marshall & Sydney Cooper lost in a three set, tie-break in the third set battle against Gabriel Richard Riverview seniors who had played together their entire high school career.  Lauren & Sydney played their hearts out!  When I arrived, they were just finishing the second set, where assistant coach and alumni parent Michelle Sutkiewicz masterfully gave them the necessary strategy to win that 2nd set after losing the 1st set.  The 3rd set was neck-and-neck where they had to play a tie-break at 6-6.  Wow, does that add to the pressure.  They ended up taking 2nd place!  4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5)

#4 Doubles:  Jane Nedwick & Andrea Gonzalvo also went three sets, which is why I didn’t arrive to see #2 doubles from the start.  Their score ended up being 4-6, 6-4, 2-6
