Everest’s high school and middle school bands were able to enjoy an amazing experience with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in early spring.  Along with their teacher, Mrs. Nalepa, and parent chaperones, the students were treated to box seats stage left and an educational performance by the DSO about Mozart’s opera, The Marriage of Figaro, including professional bass and soprano singers from the Michigan Opera Theater as well as a surprise performance of one of Mozart’s few ballet pieces.

After the performances, the students enjoyed a Jet’s Pizza lunch and cookies baked in the kitchens of the DSO. While eating lunch, one of the professional French horn players from the DSO, David Everson, spent over 30 minutes with the students, telling his story of becoming a professional, what else he does with music in addition to playing with the DSO. David has performed for the soundtracks of over 100 movies, including most of the Star Wars movies, E.T., and The Secret Life of Pets. and answering questions from students and adults. The Everest bands are already looking forward to their next DSO concert experience for 2019-2020! Many thanks to the Krappmann family for their generosity which made this experience possible.
