It has been Mitchell Lowney’s dream to be an individual state champ for years now. He had his last shot on June 7 and 8 at Grand Valley State University. Eyes were on Mitch as he was one of four D4 contestants in Mlive’s “Golfer to Beat” poll in the week leading up to the match.

Mitch had been the individual winner at the regional competition the week before. All of this came at the end of four incredibly successful years of golf for Mitch over his years at Everest Collegiate. As a freshman he was part of the Mountaineer’s state championship team. They went back-to-back in 2017 as state champs and, as a sophomore, Mitch was individual runner up. Last year, the team was finalists and Mitch took 5th as an individual. Mitch told the Clarkston News earlier this year that his goal was to be individual state champ. On June 8, that dream became reality!

This week, the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association named their 2019 All-State team. Mitch’s final goal was made reality when he was named to the 2019 Super Team. Congratulations Mitch!

Mitch is going on to play golf at Trine University in the fall.
