On Saturday, December 8, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, Everest hosted Awaken Ministries for an evening of praise and worship, dynamic speaking, and Eucharistic Adoration. The high school gym was transformed by the Awaken team and there was a full house that included Everest families and many others who had never been to Everest. The main lights were off, but the dramatic uplighting and the many candles arranged beautifully around the monstrance provided a stunning atmosphere for praise and worship in the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. A live band provided the music which opened and closed with a Marian song as befitted the feast day.
After a dynamic, spirit-filled reflection by Fr. Jason Brooks, LC on God’s light and presence in our daily life and his deep personal love for each of us individually, there was a Eucharistic procession throughout the entire space so that each person was able to be near the Eucharistic face of Jesus. It was a very powerful experience and some of the boys who carried candles in the procession commented that they were very moved by seeing people’s faces transformed in awe and reverence when Jesus drew near. Awaken Ministries has monthly event throughout the Archdiocese of Detroit and beyond.
