Everest adopted a camping theme for this year’s National Reading Month of March: “Read S’more books – the S’more you read, the S’more you know.”
Students in Junior Kindergarten through Second Grade kicked of reading month with Everest’s “fearless” President, Mr. Nalepa, reading Going on a Bear Hunt while sitting by a roaring fire.
Academy principal, Mrs. Ender, set a goal of reading 300 books for the month for early elementary students. Students were provided with stars on which to write the names of the books they read. The stars will be pasted on the night sky in the “camping area” in the cafeteria. Mr. Nalepa was given the honor of putting up the first star after reading with the students last week. Students who reach their goal by the end of the month will get to enjoy a celebration of eating S’mores while wearing camping gear to school.
