The Archdiocese of Detroit celebrated a unique and powerful event on Saturday, November 18. Nearly 70,000 people attended the beatification Mass for Father Solanus Casey held at Ford Field, including several Everest families. Eight of our high school students gave up their entire day to volunteer at the event along with hundreds of other student and adult volunteers from across the archdiocese.
Sophomore Colleen Walker had this to say about her experience: “I really enjoyed serving the Catholic Church at the beatification Mass, and it was an empowering moment to see one of our own Americans be beatified. It encouraged me to live out the universal call to holiness.”
Formation director Jill Swallow said, “I was so proud of our students. They had a great spirit and worked hard! Our job was to greet people as they entered the stadium, and our students did this with a smile for two hours straight. Then we got to sit and enjoy the Mass in all its beauty – the music, the rite of beatification, the various languages spoken during the liturgy of the Word, and the hundreds of priests concelebrating. I love our Church!”
Blessed Solanus Casey, pray for us!
