Twenty-three EC students went to the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Detroit on November 9 to participate with other Catholic high schools in the “Come Encounter Christ” prayer rally. Everest participants included members of student government, campus ministry and others representing each class.
The Cathedral was filled with high school students from around the Archdiocese of Detroit. They experienced praise and worship music, silent prayer, and listened to three special talks geared to a high school audience. Archbishop Allen Vigneron gave the last talk, encouraging the students not to be afraid to give of themselves to Jesus Christ. Afterward, Fr. Steven Pullis led a Eucharistic procession through the Cathedral, giving a blessing to the young people at each aisle. Confession was available the entire time, and a number of young people participated in the sacrament.
All the EC students who attended enjoyed the event. Senior Alex Legg said, “It was a powerful experience seeing so many people our age coming together to worship Christ.” Junior Serena Carter added, “It was great to be surrounded by other students sharing their faith and experiencing God through music and the sacraments.” Following the event, everyone celebrated with lunch at Jalapeños restaurant.
