Fr. Benjamin O’Loughlin LC will celebrate his first Mass with the students at Everest at 8:30 am Tuesday, January 6, 2015.
Fr. Benjamin was one of 35 Legionaries of Christ ordained in Rome on December 13, 2014. He begins his priestly service as the Director of the Boys’ Boarding Program at Everest.
The 35 newly ordained priests are from 11 countries. Besides Fr. Benjamin, eight men were ordained from the United States. The remaining priests come from Mexico, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, Hungary, France, Brazil, Colombia, Spain and Guatemala.
Fr. Benjamin attributes his priestly calling to the influence of a late Regnum Christi member, Brian Bisgrove, who he calls his “friend, mentor and role model.” He met Brian in 1995 after Brian had returned to New York (Fr. Benjamin is originally from Syracuse) just having finished high school at Immaculate Conception Apostolic School, a minor seminary of the Legionaries of Christ in New Hampshire. Wanting to share the gifts and training he had received there, Brian founded the first ECYD Club (a Regnum Christi youth program) in New York.
Fr. Benjamin’s mentor would later come down with cancer which took his life. During his illness, Brian said he was offering his suffering for the young men in his ECYD club.
