The Electric Pineapples team won first place in programming in their first FLL (First Lego League) competition of the season on October 26!  They placed 4th out of 49 teams from around the state in the robot competition, in which they demonstrated and explained their programs to 14 judges.

The team consists of Alex Czarnecki, Meredith Parker, Madeleine Arbogast, Nathan Freundl, Chase Dietrich, and Sawyer Arbogast and is coached by Laura Arbogast and Tom Freundl.

They presented their project presentation in a final callback to an additional 9 judges.  Project judges gave the Electric Pineapples all exemplary ratings for their project research.  This year’s theme was Nature’s Fury, and team researched volcanoes, specifically Mt. Sakurajima in Kagoshima, Japan.  Through two Skype sessions with a man named Kenji who lives in Kagoshima, they learned how the volcano’s frequent eruptions affect the daily lives of the 600,000 residents of the area. The team is filming public service announcements to help the people of Kagoshima be more prepared the eruptions.

The Electric Pineapples will be competing next at Carman Ainsworth Middle School in Flint, Michigan, in the Regional competition on November 9 where they are hoping to earn a spot at the state competition in December.

All are welcome to come and support the team at Regionals!
