Calling all scientists!  The Everest Collegiate Science Olympiad Club needs you.  Supervised by all the instructors from the EC math and science faculty, including Jeff Stencel, Nghiem Nguyen, Laura Smith and Jason Tower, the club will be participating in a 23-event tournament beginning in March 2014.

Each faculty member mentors two or three students for their events.

“If we do well, we can advance to the state and national levels,” said Mr. Nguyen.

Students who compete show their mastery of genetics, earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology, mechanical engineering and technology by taking a special test, participating in lab work, or construction of a machine to perform specific tasks.

The group started last year and currently meets twice a week on Mondays and Tuesdays from 2:45-3:30 pm. Eleven students are currently participating.

“As the date of the competition approaches, we will meet more frequently,” said Mr. Nguyen. “So far, we have been doing lots of researching, planning, and learning all the rules of our events. Come join us!”
