A Sunday morning breakfast at a cozy lakeside café…sounds like a vacation in Northern Michigan.
But this gathering took place for a more special reason on August 25, 2013, where approximately 250 people (plus a dozen volunteers) came to the White Lake Inn for a pancake breakfast in support of the Ron Slack Scholarship Fund.
The fund was established in memory of the late Ron Slack, father of 2013 Everest Collegiate graduate Tori Slack.
“Prior to Ron’s unexpected death, we had been so impressed with the support from Everest,” said Tori’s mother Christine in a letter to patrons who attended the event. “We are grateful for the patience and care they showed us. As the school community learned of Ron’s condition and our struggles, they went beyond what we ever would have expected during the most difficult time our family had ever faced.”
She also said her family would like to acknowledge the White Lake Inn for their generosity. The restaurant was one of Ron’s favorite spots during his life.
