Last week I meet with the Athletic Directors at Royal Oak Shrine and Our Lady of the Lakes to review our Hockey Co-Op and discuss the possibility of Shrine, OLL and Everest working together to offer more MHSAA sports and strengthening the sports we already offer. The Hockey Co-Op worked so well and the team experienced great success that we felt it was very important to see if we could continue to grow our programs. After looking at our student population and after discussing what sports our student body would like us to offer, we decided that beginning this coming fall Shrine, OLL and Everest will combine in boys’ soccer and next spring in boys’ lacrosse.
Everest will be the host school for soccer. What that means is Coach John Haezebrouck will remain the varsity coach and the practices and the majority of the home games will be held at Everest. Shrine will be the host school for Lacrosse which means they will hire a head coach and the practices and the majority of the home games will be held at a facility of their choice.
Since Lacrosse is a new sport for all three high schools, outside facilities will be needed for practices and most games. If additional athletic fees beyond the standard school sport registration fee are necessary, you will be notified.
We hope you find this news as exciting as we do since this offers our student athletes the opportunity to compete consistently year-after-year at a high-level.
As always, please feel free to call me at (248) 770-1690 if you have any questions.
