In front of the backdrop of the Detroit River, the Everest Collegiate Mountaineers took on the Lobos of Detroit Cristo Rey. The Mountaineers scored the only goal of the game 19 minutes into the first half. Everest freshman Luke Allen took a throw-in deep in Lobo territory and found Everest sophomore Adam Legg at the top of the penalty box. After beating one defender, Legg took a shot from just inside the penalty area and struck the back of the net to give Everest the lead, 1-0.
The Mountaineers’ defense was stout throughout the game and thwarted every attack that the Lobos could muster. Led by senior Ben Marcial, senior Ben Bates and sophomore Jimmy Thibodeau, the Everest defense was able to keep Cristo Rey off balance the entire night. Junior goalie Steven Scott made seven saves for Everest and recorded his fourth shutout of the season.
The win puts Everest Collegiate at 7-5 for the season and they are 3-3 in the Catholic League Tri-Sectional Division.
