Before Leaving on a Mission Trip, Everest Student Gets a Charitable Surprise from Fellow Classmate

Madeline Thewes and Kathryn Steel

This month Everest Collegiate student Madeline Thewes joined her father, Dr. Jeffrey Thewes, on a medical mission trip to Volcán de Agua in Guatemala on a Helping Hands Medical Mission.  Before leaving for her trip, she not only received the well wishes of her fellow classmates, but some special donations to take with her for the children they will be serving.

Madeline’s classmate, Kathryn Steel, presented Madeline with a large bag filled with small toys that Dr. Thewes can give to the Guatemalan children after he administers immunizations.  Several months before Dr. Thewes left on the mission, Kathryn had overheard him saying how he could use little toys to give to the children, who are so thrilled to receive them.   So she started saving toys from McDonald’s Happy Meals, as well as purchasing additional ones.  Great job Kathryn!

Lets’ keep the Thewes, and all our “missionaries” in our prayers.

This is so typical of Kathryn – thoughtful and generous! She reminds us that not all missionaries are the ones who “go”, but often are the ones who make the mission possible. God bless Madeline, Dr. Thewes, Kathryn and all of the missionaries.
