7G field trip to the Ortonville Grist Mill Museum and the Mann Schoolhouse

The 7th Grade Girls had a fantastic time on their field trip to the Ortonville Grist Mill Museum and the Mann Schoolhouse!

First they had a class in the one room school.  Mrs. Mary Alice Seelbinder gave them an explanation of the concept of grades 1-8 in one room; her husband Arnold, who had attended that school in the 1940’s talked more about his experience.  Mrs. Miracle gave the instruction in penmanship, arithmetic and recitation.

Then they went into the Grist Mill Museum, which is on the same property and had a scavenger hunt and tour of the museum.  Afterwords, they made their own butter and ate it with homemade bread and applesauce Mrs. Seelbinder had made.  Finally, the girls got to peel an apple with a 100 year old peeler, and weave on a 100 year old rug loom.  What a GREAT day!
